These injuries are caused by several factors. Rushing through without looking first is a common case. The habit of many workers, executives included, to read while walking has resulted in many bumps, scalding, items toppling over, unseen cables, misjudging elevations and misjudging distances are among the most common. - Start moving but do it at a comfortable slow pace. There is always the temptation to move fast when lifting even slightly heavier objects but that could upset the item and offset your balance. - If the object restricts or obstructs your view, ask for a guide. - Bend your legs as you put the object down. Don t carry anything higher than your eye level. Carrying loads higher than the eye level impresses no one. See how people refuse to walk towards you? Do not run, relax. Running may save a few seconds, after that you will take a breather for several minutes more. Refrain from putting anything atop cabinets. There should be a system in place that encourages employees to report unusual behaviors among their colleagues. The management should also provide a program that helps in assisting employees in distress. How about the structural integrity of your workplace? Are the doors, windows and other entry and exit points secured? - Incorporating the safety responsibilities of each employee to their job descriptions as well as -performance evaluations. - Establishing programs that recognize the individual contributions of employees to the safety efforts of the organization. Involvement Employees are in direct contact with tools, equipment, machineries, and appliances that make them vulnerable at work. Daily checks promote awareness of the risks involved and its avoidance and prevention. It also results to discovering other possible risks not recognized previously. Analysis of individual workstations and recording harmful actions could be better identified when daily checks are conducted. Removing Obstructions To provide good traffic in the workplace and reduce accidents, clear hallways, passageways and other walking surfaces from boxes, crates, bundles, and other objects that obstruct efficient workflow.
