The twin towers may be one of the safest buildings during its time, the Titanic was suggested as unsinkable and disasters in the likes of Katrina were not heard off and prepared for and then it happened. Accidents and disaster could strike at any time. While there are events that could never be avoided nor anticipated, most accidents and disasters could be prevented by vigilance, anticipation and preparation and a continuous process of analysis and limiting if not the elimination of probabilities. Health hazards can be avoided by very simple regulations. Encourage employees to frequently wash their hands, for example, to avoid the spread of communicable diseases. Also, disinfectants should be used in workplace areas where they are most needed such as in the cafeteria and in the men's and women's room. Remember that criminals plan their actions well and planning their attack at a point where you are most vulnerable is their objective. To minimize your risk of being attacked, adopt no routine. Interchange your schedule between at least three different routes and different hours in no particular pattern. However, emphasis is given on the responsibility of business owners to prioritize the safety, welfare, and health of their employees. Fortunately, every business owner can manage the safety of their employees in the same way they manage every other aspect of their business. Having said that, the following areas should serve as the foundation of a comprehensive safety system for every organization: Management Commitment Safety begins from the top management. Unreasonable demands on the worker like multitasking and very high expectations providing little time to perform tasks proved time and again to be counterproductive. Remember the domino effect. One potential hazard left unnoticed or unchecked could lead to string of events that not only are potentially expensive but also are disastrous. Yet these people are the most familiar with actual workplace conditions and the dangers these present. Most of the time, wisdom that are really grounded are found among them. The problem often is that they are less articulate in proposing suggestions. True, there are suggestion boxes but most of the time the tendency is to listen to employees who have earned the respect of their bosses.
