They want to dominate in their particular area and show that they are powerful. They will fight out with other males to mate a female iguana. Iguanas are arboreal by nature. They make their dwellings on the top of trees. Naturally, they can climb up the trees and even jump from a height of about 50 feet. Cage: Once you have selected your pet, you have to provide it a suitable place to live comfortably. The cage will depend upon the size of the reptile. It is always better to go for a tailor-made home for your iguana. As the iguana grows, you should be able to make changes in the size of its cage rather than shifting it from one cage to another. How can you distinguish a male iguana from a female? There a few distinct features between a male and female iguana. Males carry large fat pockets over their head and have heavier lower jaws. They carry larger femoral pores on the lower side of their thighs. Males have larger and heavier heads. Female iguanas do not have heavy fat pockets on head and their jaws are smaller. In some cases, there is bacterial infection that causes the failure. The predominant signs are loss of weight and appetite, bloating and even death. Bladder stones: There abdomen gets swelled due to formation of stone in bladder. Egg-binding: The female iguanas die due to this problem particularly when they cannot pass the eggs through their reproductive tracts. If you cannot find the leafy vegetables, find out the other green vegetables and fruits. It is better to get the advice of experts for their diet. Temperature: Most of the varieties of iguanas come from the tropical or subtropical regions. They can sustain themselves in this type of climate easily. But, they will not easily adjust in places where there is drift from hot to cold climate. When the food was available again they regained their sizes to normal. The marine iguanas are not as active as the other species of iguanas. If you keep them pet, cat and dogs will attack them and they cannot save themselves. As of date the Ecuador's government has imposed laws aiming to save marine iguanas from extinction.
