The desert iguana is not and endangered species. The Breeding Season During middle of the month of March, the desert iguanas begin to get out from the long period of hibernation. They have their breeding season during April and May. The female desert iguana lays eggs, which they hatch in July and August Throughout the entire breeding season, the adult desert iguanas will have pink stomach during the breeding season on the sides. Place the food in a shallow trough or bowl made of glass, ceramic or plastic. The food pot should be regularly cleaned. It should be heavy so that it does not topple by weight of iguana. To keep you iguanas healthy and fit, they should be fed with a variety of food. They should be given fruits, vegetables, flowers insects and worms, etc. This will cause a lot of exertion on their kidneys and may lead to kidney problems. It is hard to absorb the animal proteins and it may produce uric acid in the body which causes gouty arthritis. 2. Water: iguanas consume only a meager quantity of water. There should be sufficient amount of humidity in their cage, otherwise they may get dehydrated. The others iguanas also develop the skills required to live in deserts and dry places. Iguana living in the forests and deserts are herbivores and eat leaves, vegetables, flowers and fruits. The other varieties eat juicy mealworms and wax worms. They are insectivore or omnivores. The common type of iguana is muscular with its legs like frogs. They make their dwelling on rock plain in open forests of Eastern and Southerne Africa. The red iguanas are becoming very popular as pet like green iguanas and you can often find them in the back garden or inside the homes. You have to provide for certain necessities to bring up iguana in the new environment as a pet. This is one of the major reasons for people to keep them as their pets. It is not difficult to offer them food rather than feeding animals. However, herbivore does not signify that iguana will eat any plant. To keep them healthy and to maintain their growth, they should be given a balanced and nutritious diet.
