Take Time to Take Care (Vehicular Safety)

- Stand up slowly and avoid jerking motions. Jerking will affect the balance that you started with. Avoid quick movements while you are rising. - Start moving but do it at a comfortable slow pace. There is always the temptation to move fast when lifting even slightly heavier objects but that could upset the item and offset your balance. As they used to say, watch your step, this is truer when there is poor lighting. Don t eat at your workstation and in front of your computer. Eating in the workplace saves time. Be sure though that it is not done near computers and other electrical equipment. Accidents caused by water must be avoided at all cost. When employees are not sincerely involved, events like near misses are seldom considered serious enough to file a report. Narrow escapes are too unless maybe spotted by someone who is more safety centered. Habits and Practices The commitment of the management at reducing risks and implementing safety procedures encourages the whole team to aware safety habits. - One of the best strategies though for improving morale is for management to take steps toward creating a safe working conditions, healthy environment balanced with appropriate job descriptions and assignments where expectations are well defined, implemented and followed through. Coping There are many cases, though, when the employer and management are not aware of the stresses suffered in the workplace. Is there anyone in your organization who can potentially become a source of violence or crime? Does anyone in your organization exhibit any of the following? - Chronic absenteeism - Frequent raising of voice - Depression - Beyond normal impatience - Increased irritability - Memory and concentration problems - Other worrisome and unusual behaviors If so, what does your company do to prevent workplace problems related to any of the abovementioned conditions from erupting? In many trade, manufacturing, and production concerns, hazards analysis involves re mapping work places and stations, re outfitting employees and providing ergonomic equipment as it relates to the performance of a task or a function.
